Coffee in Aswan

Social support is one of the most protective factors for one's mental health. However, those experiencing mental illness face barriers and challenges in engaging in positive social activities.

This oil pastel drawing explores this realtionship through the depiction on three young women drinking coffee together on the Nile river while the view of the piece is on the outside of this experience, looking in. An open door and inviting atmosphere welcomes each of us to choose connection with other humans, even when it is difficult- especially when it is difficult.

In this series a neural network has been imagined as six distinct but interconnected abstract city maps
